Mary Strauss Waggoner received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas at Austin and is a State of Texas Certified Teacher. Ms. Waggoner received her certification as a Healing Touch Practitioner from the American Holistic Nurses Association. She has completed Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner Certification, Reike Master, Pranic I, Accelerated Behavior Change Facilitator Training, the St. Joseph Hospital Hospice Training and is a commissioned Prayer Healing Team Member. She has completed the Harvard Medical School training in Mind/Body Medicine focusing on the Relaxation Response.

Through volunteer work at the Institute of Religion, Ms. Waggoner learned of and attended a complementary Health Therapies Workshop sponsored by Houston's Herman Hospital and saw Healing Touch demonstrated. Two weeks later she attended the first level of training here in Houston.

Ms. Waggoner has served on the St. Lukes's Episcopal Hospital Healing Environment Council and Task Force for the Dr. Herbert Benson Houston Presentation on "Spirituality and Healing". She has been a faculty member for the "Nurses As Healers" sponsored by the Institute of Religion, and the University of Texas School of Nursing and a guest lecturer for the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health. Ms. Waggoner has been a presenter for M.D. Anderson Hospital's Anderson Network Partners In Knowledge, News In Cancer (P.I.K.N.I.C.) Education Programs and the St. Luke's EpiscopalHospital Pastoral Nursing Conference and the Texas Nurses Association.

She was a healer in the pilot project "Effects of Therapeutic Touch on the Elderly Living in Supportive Living Environments" which was done in conjunction with staff at Memorial Southwest Hospital under the approval of the Committee for Protection of Human Subjects of the University of Texas Health Science Center. Both Houston stations Channel 11 and Channel 8 have interviewed Ms. Waggoner for health and medical segments in their news broadcasts.
